15 year old Solera
The Solera system, inspired by the system used in the sherry industry, was created in 1998 by David Stewart, the fifth Malt Master in Glenfiddich history. It uniquely marries Glenfiddich 15 year old from three types of oak cask namely sherry, bourbon and new oak in handcrafted Oregon pine Solera vat holding 38.000 litres. Year on year, this vat is always kept at least half full, creating a deliciously harmonious and intense whisky which gets more complex and intriguing every year. After each bottling, new 15yo Glenfiddich is added following the same cask recipe; 10% ex-bourbon barrel transferred to new American oak for 3 months, 70% American oak ex-bourbon barrels and 20% European oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks.
Warehouse 8, also known as the Solera Warehouse, was built in 1953.
