Rare Collection

The Rare Collection from Glenfiddich was first introduced in the early 2000s and included a sought-after annual batch release of 40 year old single malt, as well as the famous 1937 vintage, genuinely one of the world's rarest bottles of whisky. This incarnation sees the label revised for its single cask series, replacing the Vintage Reserve line during the 2008 rebranding of the distillery's portfolio.

Please note Vintage Reserve, the predecessor or Rare collection, has a seperate page, and so have the Private Vintage bottlings.

Rare Collection 1937-1961

On the year of King George VI’s coronation, distilled July 17th 1937, cask number 843 began its long journey. Nurtured by ten of the finest warehousemen and under the specialist care of generations of Malt Masters, it was deemed one of the finest and oldest whiskies the world would taste.

After 64 years the angels left only 61 bottles of this precious whisky. Its strength, from decades of evaporation, should have been depleted. But it was not. Instead it had an incredible, innate and unrepeatable quality. It was bottled omn the 24th of October 2001.

Nose: Cosseting smoothness, treacle and sweet notes. Then cedar, oak and dry bitter chocolate are revealed.

Taste: Huge and complex – robust oak, burnt heather, tender poached pears in chocolate toffee. Raisins, cinnamon and cloves. A trace of leather and dark roasted coffee.

Finish: Cosseting smoothness, treacle and sweet notes. Then cedar, oak and dry bitter chocolate are revealed.

Colour: Rich walnut, darm amber, antique bronze.
