Glenfiddich Age Of Discovery 19 year old Madeira Cask Finish

This whisky celebrates the adventurous spirit of Portuguese explorers in the 15^th Century, is Glenfiddich’s first-ever 19 year old single malt Scotch whisky and the first time Glenfiddich used a Madeira Cask for finsihing their whisky.

Pioneering the sea routes from Europe to Thailand and Malaysia in search for the sea passage to India, Portuguese explorers established the city of Macao, in China, gave Taiwan the name ilha Formosa (Beautiful Island) and discovered the islands of Porto Santo and Madeira, revolutionising our understanding of the world.

Glenfiddich Age Of Discovery 19 year old Bourbon Cask 

The inspiration for Glenfiddich Age Of Discovery Bourbon Cask is taken from the great American rivers – that brought commerce and industry to the cities of the South. As the cities grew so did American whiskey distilleries - producing Tennessee Sour mash, Bourbon and Rye whiskies – which were then carried down the Mississippi River. In celebration of the extensive journeys of these American whiskeys and their casks, this new and exclusive whisky has been completely matured for 19 years in bourbon casks, a first for Glenfiddich.

Released in 2012

Nose: Warm, crunchy toffee and deep citrus notes. Marmalade on toast with fine orange liqueur balanced by dry, almost smoky oak tannin.

Taste: Intriguing layers of light tannin, underpinned by rich notes of vanilla pod, fine leather and Havana tobacco. Develops into a sweet, velvety mouth-feel with spicy hints of cardamom and nutmeg.

Finish: Warm, delightful long finish.

Colour: Autumn barley fields.

Glenfiddich Age Of Discovery 19 year old Red Wine cask Finish 

This is the third innovative whisky in the ‘Age of Discovery’ range, following the famous journeys of the Glenfiddich Madeira Cask Finish and Bourbon Cask Reserve. Glenfiddich releases the ‘Age of Discovery’ Red Wine Cask Finish, an adventurous whisky, bursting with flavour and inspired by Charles Darwin’s legendary voyage.  Left for at least 19 years to mature, this whisky has finally been finished in casks which previously housed the full bodied red wines produced in South America.

It marks the first time ever in Glenfiddich’s history that a whisky has been finished in red wine casks.  The ‘Age of Discovery’ Red Wine Cask Finish takes its influence from the renowned journey of HMS Beagle.  Setting sail from Plymouth, England in 1831, its passengers included Charles Darwin, a young naturalist, who was invited onboard to record his observations as they explored the South American coast line.
